HELIGOLF bears the complete costs for offsetting the CO2 emissions independently.

The compensation takes place via the certified rainforest reforestation project "̈RMDLT-Portel-Pará REDD Project, Brazil" with the project number 981 of the Verified Carbon Standard (VCS), project methodology: VM0015

The project protects almost 180,000 hectares. Rainforest.

From an original of more than 60 million square kilometres of untouched beauty in worldwide rainforests, today there still exist 7 large, contiguous areas which today extend over approx. 13.5 million square kilometres or approx. 20% of the original area. It is estimated that about 120'000 to 150'000 square kilometers of virgin forest are cleared per year, which is about the size of Greece.

The Brazilian Amazon rainforest stores around 380 million tons of CO2 every year.

RMDLT Portel-Pará REDD Project, Brazil

This project is located in the Amazon region of Brazil. The Amazon region is the largest intact rainforest on earth and covers an area from Lisbon to Warsaw and Palermo to Copenhagen. It is home to more than 10% of all the world's species as well as to the endangered Kaáporia monkey and other mammals, reptiles, insects and many bird species.

This forest conservation project covers an area of almost 130,000 hectares and protects virgin forest from deforestation. According to the Brazilian Ministry of the Environment, this project has an enormous biodiversity, which is not only ecologically but also socio-economically important, as it is home to noble tree species such as Brazil nut trees. The project protects original forests from deforestation, which should have been converted into agricultural land. Over a period of 40 years, more than 10 million tons of CO2 will be avoided or stored. Portel is a Brazilian municipality in the federal state of Pará and is home to almost 50,000 inhabitants. The local population consists mainly of settlers (Riberinhos) and lives along the rivers.

The project covers almost 130,000 hectares and is divided into 17 private plots (Glebas). In 2012, monitoring was expanded and the local population was involved and trained for monitoring and implementation.

Further project activities:

  • Training of the local population in the monitoring and management of forests and monitoring of protected forest areas.

  • Active cooperation with the local community to improve the overhaul organisation.

  • In cooperation with the local population, efficient cooking stoves and associated pilot projects are being implemented.

  • Training of agroforestry technicians and implementation of agroforestry pilot projects

The project contributes to sustainable development:

  • Promoting job creation in the forestry sector

  •  Training in forestry

  • Stabalizes endangered and threatened habitats and preserves biodiversity
